Lake Pichola: The Most Picturesque Lake of Udaipur


Lake Pichola, situated in Udaipur city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, is an artificial fresh water lake, created in the year 1362 AD, named after the nearby Picholi village. Pichola Lake is the most picturesque lake of Udaipur. Between the lake, Lake Palace - a 250 year old white marble palace seems to float miraculously on the still waters of Lake Pichola, Udaipur, Rajasthan, India.

Pichhola Lake, extended to 3 miles in length, 2 miles in width and has depth of 30 feet, was built by Pichhu Banjara during (1362) the ruling period of Maharana Lakha. Captivated by the charm of this pristine lake which has the perfect backdrop of lush green hills, Maharana Udai Singh probably decided to built the city of Udaipur. He also enlarged Pichola lake. 

You will find Palaces, temples, bathing ghats and elevated hills on all its sides of Lake Pichola. In the southern part of Pichola lake, a hill that is known as Machhala Magra offers the glimpses of Eklinggarh Fort. The City Palace of Udaipur broadens along the eastern banks of Pichola Lake. Mohan Mandir is situated in the north-east corner of Lake Pichola.  

The pristine blue waters of the Lake Pichola soothes you and therefore, a trip to Pichola Lake would be incomplete with a boat ride. Anyone will fall in love with the mesmerizing beauty of Lake Pichola. No wonder Rudyard Kipling once wrote, "If the Venetian owned the Pichola Lake, he might say with justice, `see it and die".
